Operating Activites
I am active across many bands and modes. Because of my station I am somewhat limited in my HF operations.
HF SSB
I obtained my extra class license in October of 2007, and have since been as active as I can be on the HF bands. When I get on HF, I am generally active on 10 Meters, 15 Meters, 20 Meters and 40 Meters SSB.
HF PSK31
PSK31 gives me an opporunity to work the world even with my limited station. I can most often be found on 20 Meters and 30 Meters, but have been known to browse. Back when PSK31 was relatively new, I also used it on 2 Meter FM. I have used a great many of the programs out there for PSK31 and the other modes, but lately have been using PSK31 Deluxe because it has some great features when used in conunction with Ham Radio Deluxe and my FT-857.
2M/440 FM
I have been active to some extent or another on FM voice in the VHF and UHF bands as long as I have been licensed. While I enjoy the many fine repeaters we have here in Orlando, I am usually on simplex with a group of friends that are in my area. I often pop up on the repeaters when there's nothing going on on simplex, and can be found on the 147.285 LMARS repeater, the 147.120 KT4AZ repeater, and the 145.230 repeater in Bithlo, among several notable others. On the 440 side, I can often be found on the 443.325 and 442.075 repeaters.
Packet
As a computer guy, my involvement with packet was inevtable. I have been involved in packet since I was first licensed, and am still quite active there. You can find my personal BBS at either 145.07 or 145.77 by connecting to KG4EZQ-1. Packet is also an integral component of my ITCS ideas.
Contesting
I greatly enjoy contesting, but not in the traditional sense. Because my station is too puny to be competitive, I use the contests as an opportunity to work stations that I need to work for whatever paper I am chasing, or to work DX whenever possible. During an ARRL International DX Contest earlier in 2008, I took the opportunity to enjoy the cool weather and make a camping trip out of the event, setting up a portable station with a G5RV. This was very enjoyable and I am looking forward to doing it again.
